Talent Hunt:

Showcasing The Future

Saturday March 9, 2023, at 3pm

Helena Nobles-Jones Auditorium, Charles H. Flowers High School

Applications must be submitted to Bro. William Lloyd, Talent Hunt Chair, via email (pennlloyd1843@gmail.com) no later than February 3, 2024.

The Talent Hunt Program provides exposure, encouragement, and financial assistance to talented young people participating in the performing arts. Winners are awarded recognition and may be given college scholarships.

The Talent Hunt Program is one of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity's National Projects. The first Talent Hunt was held on April 19, 1946, in Charlotte, NC. The need for such a program was born out of the limited opportunities afforded to some American youth to develop and give full expression of their talents.

Talent Hunt Rules and Guidelines

This year Talent Hunt is back in person and the showcase will be held at the Helena Noble Jones Auditorium at Charles H. Flowers High School, 1001 Ardwick Ardmore Road, Springdale, MD 20774

The program is open to students in grades 9-12 who are Prince George’s County, Maryland residents with abilities in the creative and performing arts. Vocalists and instrumentalists are required to provide their own accompanists and dancers must furnish their own music.

Featured will be solo performances in the following areas:

  • Instrumental Music (Contemporary or Classical, jazz, gospel, and pop)

  • Vocal Music (Contemporary or Classical, jazz, gospel, and pop)

  • Dance (ballet, creative/modern, and tap)

  • Visual Arts (painting, drawing, photography)

  • Drama (Spoken Word)

All contestants are limited to six (6) minute performances. All music or dramatic selections should be memorized (required at the District and National levels). Performances not memorized will be penalized. In art, a contestant may submit up to three (3) entries. All paintings, drawings, and etchings must be clearly labeled and matted with the student’s name.

Cash prizes and trophies are awarded to first, second, and third-place winners in each category. The overall winner in performance will be considered to represent Gamma Pi Chapter at the 76th Second District Talent Hunt Competition in King of Prussia, PA. At this event, winners from similar Talent Hunt programs held in New York, Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland will compete for greater recognition and awards.
