Preparing for the Future

Project ENRICH is our connection to our future — our youth. Project ENRICH is a special program designed to provide high school students, beginning at the ninth grade level, with an educational foundation and preparatory experiences which would assist them in their enrollment in and adjustment to higher education institutions committed to the educational development of black youth, particularly the Historically Black Colleges and Universities.  The program builds upon the students' academic enrichment by providing:  academic support workshops, academic and financial college planning seminars, college visitations and career awareness opportunities.

Project ENRICH began operating in the District of Columbia Public Schools in 1982.  In 1985, the Project expanded its operations to Prince George’s County, Maryland under the sponsorship of the Gamma Pi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., to continue its efforts of helping students prepare themselves for rewarding college experiences.

Similar to the college experience, students make a four year commitment to the program, freshman through senior years. Selection criteria and a schedule of activities for the project take place during the first year. The results of an end-of-the-year assessment are presented and, according to feedback from participating students, Project ENRICH proved helpful in assisting them in improving their academic skills and giving them insight into careers, college application, obtaining college financial aid, and their own academic ability. Counselors rated students' attitudes as very good and perceived Project ENRICH as very beneficial to students.
